McNairy County SPCA

UPDATE: 1/2/09 Hooooray, Fran the pit has gone to a wonderful fully approved indoor home!!!!! Here's what we have left...MachoMan, Lil Man and Sheila.
UPDATE 1/02/09 It has been an exhausting couple of days...wonderfully, blissfully deleriously exhausting! All dogs have been placed but 3!!!
These few need homes:
LIL MAN: Curdog/Pitty mix. He is on the website, take a look at this handsome boy. He needs a home with children over the age of 10, preferably no cats. His listing says no other dogs, however, it only says that because, some dogs he likes, some dogs he doesn't. He tends to be an alpha male and struts around like a rooster.
FRAN: To an approved pit rescue ONLY. She is a sweet loveable meatball that was seized by the SPCA and the McNairy County Sheriffs Dept. Please call 731-610-5872 for specific information concerning Fran.
MACHOMAN: Black Chow/Lab, mostly Lab, very sweet, playful, fully vetted.
This shelter announced its closing Sept 2008. We have been working feverishly to have all animals placed by the Jan 1, 2009 deadline. Any animals without holds, adoptions, rescue commitments etc will be euthanized Jan 2009. Please help us place these remaining furbabies.

UPDATE 10:30PM Dec 31st, the New Year is just a couple of hours away and I am thrilled. What was looking like a very grim start to the new year is turning bright and joyous. Thanks to all of you that have been spreading the news, Channel 5 memphis and Channel 24 has helped us get the word out loud! We are desperately trying to keep up with the voicemails, our voicemail box fills faster than we can get the messages, because we are constantly answering the calls and it seems we can't stop answering calls long enough to retrieve messages, but please be patient and keep calling folks! We are placing dogs in wonderful forever homes and have had many adopted today and many booked on transports all over the country headed for new forever homes. We are trying to update petfinders hourly on who is still available and who has adoptions pending. If you cannot reach us by phone please check the sight often to see who is still in need. I will update this page with a big HOOORAY when every single one of these deserving babies have found a home. Thank you to all of you tireless rescue workers that have been manning the phones and spreading the word for us. ~Debbie

We are happy to announce the establishment of the NEW McNairy County SPCA.
The McNairy County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Inc (SPCA) is an animal welfare group founded in 2006 here in McNairy County. We are a not-for-profit charitable organization whose goals are as follows:
1. Care for abandoned, abused and homeless animals;
2. Call attention to unacceptable practices that harm animals;
3. Encourage humane and suitable animal care;
4. Educate the public about the minimum care required to own an animal in Tennessee.
5. Advocate for changes in law to benefit animals; and above all
6. Investigate and seek to prevent acts of animal cruelty

The McNairy County SPCA carries out its mission without any government funding and relies solely on donations from the public.

Our Animal Cruelty Investigators are experienced in investigating and prosecuting violators of the Animal Cruelty Laws in the State of Tennessee. We have partnered closely with the McNairy County Sheriff’s department in answering complaints of abuse and neglect of animals and will continue to do so.
